Legal & Mediation Services

Pensoneau Firm ServicesWhat distinguishes Cindy’s legal practice is her whole-person approach in helping her clients move through the process of family conflict.   Rather than a purely legalistic style, Cindy helps inspire solutions with a heart-centered philosophy to guide clients through difficult challenges. She helps clients reduce stress and anxiety by using mindfulness techniques, simple breath and movement practices and other mind/body/spirit tools.

Using her skills developed in 20 years’ experience in the legal field, Cindy helps parties choose the legal process that fits the family’s needs, values and financial circumstances.

Cindy supports parties in “conscious uncoupling” which means they feel safe to make big, wise decisions on the toughest issues – money/security/stability and children.

“Conscious uncoupling” is a term coined and created by relationship expert Katherine Woodward Thomas, and made mainstream by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin sharing the description of their divorce being a 'conscious uncoupling'.   The term has become synonymous with a divorce where both partners take responsibility for their part in the changed relationship dynamics, and, in particular, are looking to co-parent in a functional and healthy way in the future.

True “conscious uncoupling” is only possible when parties feel safe and supported.  As a mediator, Cindy serves as an unbiased neutral to preserve a mediation environment in which all parties can be heard, feel supported and feel free to make the next best decision for their family.

Cindy assists families through the uncoupling process in a way that transforms conflict and makes the most efficient use of their resources.  Her focus is on facilitating the best client-directed solutions out of court, and when necessary, litigation in court.  Cindy has 20 years’ experience in divorce litigation, and she is a trained mediator and Collaborative divorce attorney.

Collaborative divorce is a divorce process whereby parties maintain privacy, control costs, and enjoy the support of skilled professionals to help navigate divorce for the highest and best financial and emotional outcomes for all involved.  In Collaborative divorce, the spouses spend less than 1/5 the amount of money spent on an average litigated case on attorney and professional fees, according to the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) research of hundreds of cases.  See and for more information.

Both parties in Collaborative divorce have a Collaborative-trained divorce attorney, plus the support of a Collaborative-trained family counselor and, if needed, a Collaborative-trained financial expert/CPA.

The Collaborative process is designed to skillfully support the family in intentionally shifting from a married family to a high functioning and cooperative divorced family. It is a process that can transform a stuck married relationship to a healthier divorced, co-parenting relationship. The professionals’ involved bring in a mindset and skill set to create the best divorce outcomes possible.

Cindy became a mediator in 2009 to create opportunities for settlement that minimize the financial and emotional burden so common in divorce.  After litigating many divorces and witnessing the toll divorce takes on couples and children, she knew there had to be a healthier way to help people divorce.

Cindy conducts online mediation sessions using video conferencing technology which allows parties to mediate from the comfort and safety of their home or office.  Many people prefer online mediation for the safety, convenience, scheduling ease and cost-effective results. Cindy uses online video conferencing to mediate for parties in divorce, parenting disputes and other general law and family law matters.

Cindy regularly serves as a coach for individuals and parties going through conflict.  Her coaching helps clients navigate legal and power issues in marriage, mediation and/or litigated divorces. Cindy coaches her clients with mindful communication and excellent self-care for mind, body and spirit, in order to achieve their highest and best outcomes.
